A poor orphan girl Maria
Was walking to one day
She stopped for to rest by the
Where a bird a broken wing lay

A few moments till she saw it
For it's feathers were with sand
But soon and wrapped it
Was traveling in the warmth of Maria's small

She gave her last peso
On a cage made of rushes and
She fed it corn from the market
And it grow stronger with time

Now the Eve service was coming
And the church shone with tinsel and
And all of the town folks brought
To lay by the that night

were diamonds and incense
And perfumes in packages fit for a
But for one ragged bird in a small
Maria had to bring

She waited till just before
So no one see her go in
And she knelt by the manger
For her was unworthy of Him

Then the Lord to her through the darkness
"Maria, what you to me
If the bird in the is your offering
the door and let me see"

she trembled, she did as He ask her
And out of the cage the bird
Soaring up into the
On a wing had healed good as new

Just then the bells rang out
And the little bird to sing
A song that no words could
beauty was fit for a king

Now Maria blessed just to listen
To that cascade of notes sweet and
As her was lifted to Heaven
By the very nightingale's song
